Art Gallery

Within the hotel and spa, we have a large range of originals, prints and collected art mostly from local popular artists, some from Royal Academy members.  Each public area, bedroom, suite and of course the Spa has art on the walls that gives the hotel its unique feel.  No two paintings are the same and mostly the art has been a collection through time by Simon and Jill Rhatigan.

The hotel has a professionally lit gallery area that exhibits seasonal shows all year round.

Liquid Amber Art Gallery, a local fine art gallery, puts together regular exhibitions and art shows for the Home and Business each month. Artworks are on show all the time at the hotel.

NEW Mixed media exhibition - 18-21st March 2010

Damian Callan is particularly interested in the moving figure, children, swimmers and gymnasts. He often uses his children as models for his paintings. His loose style and the free brushstrokes of his drawings and finished oils capture the life and exuberance of children on holiday.

Liquid Amber are very proud to be showing Damian’s work, he has enjoyed success at many solo and group shows but most of all his work has been recognised with shows at The National Portrait Gallery, London; Christies and his paintings are in many private art collections.

Lucy Pratt has the remarkable ability of being able to transform whatever she chooses to paint, into imagery which is refreshingly vital and colourful. Her work always appears to express her immediate spontaneous joy in painting the subject.

Lucy was invited to exhibit her paintings in the 2009 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, a very proud moment for herself and her family.  A bubbly, happy personality, we really enjoy working with Lucy..

Christopher Johnson, born in 1961 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and is the son of a farmer. He completed his Masters of Fine Art degree at Rhodes University, South Africa.

The fact that Christopher usually paints on site means that his work has an immediacy and freshness. However, he does from time to time revisit pieces and some are developed over long periods.  The colours and bold brush strokes used make his work both warm and exciting. Christopher has exhibited widely around the world including a number of collections at the Bank of England, De Beers and IBM

Anthony Yates RBA, RBSA :  Born in Birmingham, Anthony spent many years working in commercial art studios from the age of 16, before becoming a full-time painter.

Exhibiting up and down the country he came to the attention of some noted artists.  He was elected an Associate of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 1998 and became a full member in 2002. Further recognition has followed and after being given the Davison Award for the Best Group of Paintings at London’s Mall Galleries in 2005 he was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in the same year

Jean Feeney  - Born in York, Jean now lives in the heart of highland Perthshire, but admits that some of her greatest artistic inspiration comes from a very different part of the Scottish landscape

She has worked in a variety of media and her trademark is strong and bold colour combined with energy, light and atmosphere. Her main influences are the Scottish colourists and some of the German expressionists and, of course, Van Gogh for his love of yellow and use of thickly applied and textured paint

Melanie Wright - A Yorkshire born artist, growing up in the Dales in North Yorkshire, Melanie enjoyed both riding and handling horses. She rode out with the Bedale and Zetland hunts and frequently visited the moor gallops at Middleham, to watch the racehorses against the stunning backdrop of Wensleydale.

Her collectoin of four pastel paintings are on show at the hotel at the moment
