Our Gardens
We were delighted when Matthew Wilson agreed to design our small but creative English garden for hotel and spa guests to enjoy. Matthew, formerly the curator at nearby RHS Harlow Carr gardens in Harrogate and now promoted to Head of Gardens Creative Development for the RHS, has created a great little garden escape for Verbena Spa & Feversham Arms guests. From pleached lime trees, beautiful English planting, small comfortable seating areas and unusual containers, the theme is very much a natural English garden for today.
There’s also a fire pit for those cooler days when sitting around an outdoor fire with a warming cup of hot chocolate seems the perfect way to unwind.
Matthew’s challenge was to create an oasis of tranquility with a degree of privacy for spa guests & hotel guests alike which had to be largely container based rather than planted into soil. On top of that there was a requirement to provide a good deal of interest in Winter as well as Summer and cope with strong micro climate imposed by a South facing courtyard.
Locally, we are very privileged to be located yards away from Helmsley Walled Gardens as well minutes drive from the amazingly beautiful Castle Howard and Scampston Gardens.
