Meet Margaret, our Housekeeping Supervisor

This week’s blog is a bit of a #FlashbackFriday as we spend time introducing you to one of our longest serving members of staff and our housekeeping supervisor, Margaret Fawcett.
Margaret has been with us here at the Feversham Arms for 17 years, after the venue underwent one of its first major refurbishments under the then new owners.
She is responsible for looking after our housekeeping staff, helping to rota their shifts, ordering goods and supplies, helping to clean the rooms and checking them afterwards to make sure they are ship shape.
We sat down with Margaret to find about a bit more about her role here at the Feversham Arms and the secret to what keeps her here, year after year:
What is your favourite part of the job?
One of my favourite parts of the job is mixing with all the other members of staff. It’s a real community and we get on so well. It’s lovely to see everyone. I also get a huge sense of satisfaction from checking the rooms and making sure they are nice for the guests. It’s always lovely when someone opens the door for the first time and you witness that moment of awe on their faces as they set eyes on the room for the first time.
Tell us the funniest/most interesting thing you’ve experienced in your job?

I once had some guests ask me what they would do in the event of a fire. They were completely serious when they told me they had a tow rope in the car and asked if they should go and get it, in case they had to climb out of the window. I didn’t really know what to say! But I told them it was unlikely and our procedures are designed to keep all guests and staff safe.

What attracted you to work at Feversham Arms?

When I started, the hotel had just been bought by its former owners and had undergone a big renovation. My children had grown up so I saw it as a fresh start. It’s also in the most beautiful location.
What makes Feversham Arms unique?
When you come to the Feversham Arms, you can always be sure of a warm welcome and friendly staff. There’s also our beautiful heated outdoor swimming pool and our stunning surroundings. We’re very lucky.
Why should people visit Feversham Arms?

As well as the above, it all contributes to a relaxing atmosphere. It really is the perfect place to switch off.
