Bonfire Night in Helmsley

Bonfire Night is one of those traditional events that us Brits don’t do by halves. Each year local communities come together and enjoy bonfire parties, firework displays and our personal favourite – pie, peas and toffee apples!

The annual commemoration is in memory of King James I who survived an attempt on his life by Guy Fawkes, Britain’s most notorious traitor, and 12 other young men who planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament. That night back in 1605, bonfires were set alight to celebrate the safety of the King and since then, November 5th has become known as Bonfire Night.

This year, the annual celebration in Helmsley will be taking place at The Sports and Recreation Ground on Baxtons Lane, just down the road from us here at the Feversham. We invite you to come down and enjoy an afternoon in our cosy snug sat by the fire before heading to the sports club for 6.30pm to watch as the bonfire goes up in flames.

The club will be hosting an awe inspiring firework display from 7.00pm, followed by a free disco for you, your friends and family to dance the night away and truly enjoy the Great British tradition that is Bonfire Night. Tickets are available on the gate at £5 per person with children under 5 free. There will be a bar, food and a raffle in aid of the Sports Club and we’re certain it will be a fantastic evening.

Why not make a weekend of it and book to stay the night with us at the Feversham? After the bonfire you can take the short walk back to the hotel and enjoy the rest of your evening in our cosy countryside retreat. The following morning you will wake to a delicious Yorkshire breakfast before enjoying the rest of your day in our relaxing Verbena Spa or perhaps walking in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.
